The mv. JOHN J D was built in 1979 by Eymard & Sons Shipyard, Harvey, LA. It is powered by twin Cummins KTA19 diesels rated at 1000 hp. It is owned by McGinnis Inc., South Point, Ohio. It normally pushes four to six barges to fleeting areas. It is called a "lunch bucket boat" because it has no galley on board. Used primarily as a harbor boat, it's crew work 12 hour shifts four days a week.
